The European Central Bank (ECB) estimates that wages in the eurozone will increase by around 5% in 2023 and 4% in 2024.
In Spain, collective agreements signed in 2022 establish a salary increase of 2.9%. In this post we analyze whether next year will be the year of salary increases.

Over the last few months, there have been price consulting email list increases for electricity, petrol and many other products and services. This has caused a significant reduction in the purchasing power of families, due, therefore, to inflation. But the question is: will there be a salary increase proportional to the increase in prices? Let's analyse the situation.

The National Institute of Statistics (INE) recently published the Annual Survey of Salary Structure with data for the year 2020. The survey highlights that the average salary per worker increased by 3.2% , but the most common salary fell to 18,480 euros. Therefore, the trend in terms of average salary is upward. And, furthermore, as we will see below, measures are being taken in this regard.

What measures are being taken to increase salaries?
To ensure that families do not continue to lose purchasing power due to the increase in the price of electricity or the shopping basket, the Government has taken measures. One of them is the increase in the Interprofessional Minimum Wage (SMI) which, since January 1, 2022, was set at 1,000 euros per month in fourteen payments. In 2023, the SMI is expected to increase to 1,049 euros per month in fourteen payments.
