Write down what you want to achieve
It's difficult to get started if you don't have a clear vision of what you want to achieve with your organization and social media. Therefore, make sure you know where you want to be in a certain timeframe. Form a small group with colleagues who work directly with social media. Explore social media with your organization and, above all, discuss the possibilities with your colleagues and manager(s). Ask yourself and your team the following question: what is the long-term goal of our organization?
One tip is to attach KPIs (key performance indicators) to your long-term goals. Think, whatsapp data for example, of increasing reach or increasing brand awareness.
Keep track of your goals
It's easy to get excited about the new goals you've set for your organization at first, but it can sometimes be difficult to stay focused if you don't see immediate results. Don't let this hold you back! Keeping your organization's commitment in mind will help you stay motivated. Make sure you meet with your directly involved colleagues at least every two weeks.
You won't reach the ultimate goal in one day
It's important to understand that it can take a while for everyone to get on board and get things moving. Start small and try setting small, easily achievable goals. Analyze what's needed to ultimately achieve the big goal and proceed step by step. Consider this: what can you change in the short term to achieve your goal step by step?
Don't be afraid to ask for help
It's always a little awkward to start working in a new field. Fortunately, many people already work with social media, so don't be afraid to ask others about their expertise. First, carefully consider the talent your municipality has available. Develop your knowledge together with your team by, for example, asking other companies about their experiences, taking a training course together, or hiring external talent.
