How can you mute notifications for a specific chat?

Post by mostakimvip06 »

To mute notifications for a specific chat on WhatsApp, whether it's an individual contact or a group, the process is quite straightforward on both Android and iOS devices. Here's how you can do it:

On Android:

Open WhatsApp: Launch the WhatsApp application japan whatsapp number data on your Android device.
Go to the Chats tab: Ensure you are on the main screen displaying your list of chats.
Select the Chat: Tap and hold on the specific chat (individual or group) for which you want to mute notifications. This will select the chat, and you might see a toolbar appear at the top.
Tap the Mute Icon: Look for the mute icon, which usually resembles a speaker with a line through it ($\boldsymbol{\unicode{x1F507}}$). Tap this icon.
Choose Mute Duration: A pop-up menu will appear asking you for how long you want to mute the notifications. You typically have the following options:
8 hours
1 week
Always Select your preferred duration.
Optional: Uncheck "Show notifications": Depending on your WhatsApp version, you might see an option like "Show notifications." If you uncheck this box, you won't even see the notifications in your device's notification bar. If you leave it checked, you'll still receive the notifications silently (without sound or vibration).
Tap "Mute" or "OK": Confirm your selection to mute the notifications for the chosen chat and duration.
Alternatively, you can also mute from within the chat:

Open the Specific Chat: Tap on the individual or group chat.
Tap the Contact/Group Name: At the top of the chat screen, tap on the name of the contact or the group name. This will take you to the "Contact info" or "Group info" screen.
Tap "Mute notifications": Scroll down until you find the "Mute notifications" option and tap on it.
Choose Mute Duration: Select your desired mute duration (8 hours, 1 week, or Always).
Tap "OK": Confirm your choice.
On iPhone:

Open WhatsApp: Launch the WhatsApp application on your iPhone.
Go to the Chats Screen: Make sure you are on the main screen where your chats are listed.
Swipe Left on the Chat: Swipe left on the specific chat (individual or group) you want to mute. This will reveal two options: "More" and "Archive."
Tap "More": Tap on the "More" option.
Tap "Mute": From the options that appear, select "Mute."
Choose Mute Duration: You will be presented with the options to mute for:
8 hours
1 week
Always Select your preferred duration.
Alternatively, you can also mute from within the chat:

Open the Specific Chat: Tap on the individual or group chat.
Tap the Contact/Group Name: At the top of the chat screen, tap on the name of the contact or the group name. This will take you to the contact or group info screen.
Tap "Mute Notifications": Look for the "Mute Notifications" option and tap on it.
Choose Mute Duration: Select your desired mute duration (8 hours, 1 week, or Always).
What happens when you mute a chat?

You will still receive messages from the muted chat.
Your phone will not vibrate or make a sound when a new message arrives from that chat.
On Android, if you didn't uncheck "Show notifications," you will still see a silent notification in your notification bar. On iPhone, you will see the unread message badge on the WhatsApp icon and within the app.
How to unmute a chat:

To unmute a chat, simply follow the same steps as above to access the mute settings for that chat and then tap "Unmute notifications."

By muting specific chats, you can effectively manage distractions and focus on the conversations that require your immediate attention while still being able to check the muted chats at your convenience. Remember that the other participants in the chat will not be notified that you have muted the conversation.
