We must be careful in determining an efficient strategy between positioning and selling. This is achieved by using two types of words: consultative and transactional.

Consultative: These are keywords that Internet users use to obtain information on a topic they need, but with which they have no intention of purchasing anything.

Transactional: Keywords that are searched when the user has a clear intention to buy or acquire a product.

Let's look at an example of a company that sells Xerox brand copiers.

Xerox Copier is a consultative word, which can sometimes be transactional, but it is not home owner database consultative in itself because the person searching for it is not necessarily looking to buy.

The word Xerox copier sales or where to buy Xerox copiers would be transactional, who does this search if they are trying to buy a copier.

As should be clear, the first option has a higher search volume, but the second will profile our business more efficiently.

Now the client may tell us they want to sell copiers, but at this point, the competition may require a few more months of work to position themselves, unlike if we position them by brand.
