The 1990s were an extremely important time for Brazil's development. During this period, the country invested in numerous initiatives to boost its economic and social growth, with the creation of the National Privatization Program, instituted at the beginning of the decade, being one of its main steps towards achieving economic recovery and reformulating the role of the State.


After years of state monopoly of some services, Brazil found itself facing a new scenario: with privatization, private companies entered the markets and the State began to function as a regulator and no longer an executor , being responsible for supervising activities and fostering competitiveness. To achieve this, it was necessary to structure regulatory agencies .


In this way, the agencies have gained a fundamental role by becoming responsible for regulating economic activity, taking into account the public interest, in order to ensure that the development of economic sectors in Brazil is in balance with the promotion of social well-being. In this sense, the creation of regulatory agencies represents an important milestone in the history of Brazil, which currently has 10 agencies in operation . The establishment of Anatel as a regulatory agency arises in a context of great relevance for telecommunications worldwide, given the enormous technological advances that occurred during this period. The Internet gained strength and brought about significant changes in the organization of nations that sought space in the global market through innovation processes and the strengthening of the telecommunications sector.


The role of Anatel
With the structural change experienced by the sector, based on the use of new technologies, companies have experienced a revolution in the segment. Currently, according to a survey by Frost & Sullivan , total revenue from telecommunications services in Brazil is expected to exceed US$ 45 billion in 2022. And it is precisely because of the high growth potential of the sector that Anatel's actions become essential.
