Method 1: Expanding the semantic core
Expanding the semantic core is the process of adding new and unique queries that can be used by your target audience when searching for information on the Internet. The more diverse the queries, the more potential ways to attract users to your site.
Adding unique queries to your semantic core will help attract additional traffic to your site. If competitors are successfully using these queries, they probably have high potential for updating the current audience or collecting a new one.
Go to the "Competitor Analysis" tool and enter your domain, in the "Competitors in search for domain ..." section there will be a ready-made list of competitors for your site. Choose competitors with the greatest intersection, because the greater the intersection of queries, the more common goods / services you have.
Let's use the "Domain Comparison" tool in SpyWords to analyze the two competing sites that we found earlier in "Search Competitors for Domain..." and click on the "All Organic Search Competitors" button:
Let's mark the list of competitors with whom you have the highest level of competition. Then click on the "Compare domains" button to go to the "Domain comparison" tool:
When you enter the "Domain Comparison" tool, you will see a general summary. Let's move on to the "Comparison of domains in Yandex organic search results" diagram below with the number of unique organic queries for each site, as well as queries that intersect between them. To see the queries themselves, simply hover your mouse over any area and click on it.
Similarly, you can view Google queries for all your competitors by switching the toggle switch in the upper right corner of the summary:
To find common keywords for all three sites, click on the area where they intersect. The resulting queries are not only available for viewing, but can also be exported. Just click on "View all queries" and on the next page with queries, select the "Export" option.
The "+" sign next to the number shows which queries have been emphasized in promotion in the current month compared to the previous month.
In general, this information allows you to easily track changes in the site's positions for specific queries and assess whether SEO promotion is moving in the right direction. All this is available in Spywords, and you can check the positions for queries on a monthly basis.
Method 2: Monitoring changes in search results
SpyWords not only allows you to analyze positions for specific phrases, but also allows you to identify all the keywords for which your site is ranked in organic search results. This way, you can track changes in positions for all keywords from month to month!
What queries is the site currently ranked for?
First of all, go to SpyWords and, if you are not registered yet, go through a quick registration.
Then, in the "Competitor Analysis" tool, enter your domain and click the "Track" button.
Let's move on to the section "Domain queries in search results", which is located below.
This report will contain all the key queries by which the site is ranked in search results. There are two buttons under the report: view all queries in organic search and export the semantic core. It is important to note the following:
1) The semantic core report includes all the key queries by which the site is promoted in organic search results. They must be present on the site pages in headings, subheadings, text, etc.
2) The report on all queries in organic search includes all the key queries by which the site is promoted in organic search results, but they may not necessarily be included on the site pages.
Click "All queries in organic search" and go to the query analysis page.
If you previously selected about 20-30 queries to check positions, here you can view absolutely all the queries by which your site is ranked. This is useful, since you can even find non-obvious queries with a high view rate that bring additional traffic to the site.
The current month's search results position for each query is displayed in the corresponding column. Many queries have a position expressed not only by a number, but also by additional designations: "New", "-1", "+7". Let's take a closer look at what these labels mean.
"New" next to the position number indicates that the domain was not previously ranked for this query, but began to move up in this database update.
A number with a "-" next to the position indicates that the domain has dropped by n positions for this keyword this month compared to the previous month.
A number with a "+" next to the position indicates that the domain has risen by n positions for this keyword this month compared to the previous month.
"N/A" next to the position indicates that the domain was previously ranked for this keyword, but stopped ranking this month and is no longer ranked.
This functionality allows you to easily track the dynamics of your site's positions for a specific query from month to month, helping you understand whether your SEO is moving in the right direction.
How to track the positions of a specific query
On the same page from the previous point, enter the query you are interested in into the search bar and look at the position for it:
An important point may also be the need to export all queries in Excel format. To do this, simply click on the "Export" button, which is located above the table with queries.
