How to create a Tag

Post by ahbappy250 »

There are many things you can do through GTM . The main one is to create tags . These are the snippets of code that the service will implement into the site or app you choose for you. Once you create a few of these tags, you will find that doing so will become second nature to you.

To help you with your first tag, though, let’s walk you french email address list through the process step by step. The following instructions will walk you through creating a Google Analytics tag for page view hits. This tag will fire to send the details of every page view hit your site receives to your Analytics account.

If you create this type of tag, you will need to remove the existing Analytics container from your site's code. This is because having both embedded in a page's code will cause duplicates in the pageview results. This duplication will ruin your data.

The first step to create a tag is to select the "Add a new tag" link from the GTM workspace, as shown below:

The next page you will see is where you can configure your tag. Your first task is to give it a name. You can name your tags whatever you like. However, you will end up with a fair number of tags per site, so you need to be able to distinguish them. A useful way to name your tags is to adopt the following style:

Tag Type — Specific Tag — Unique Identifier.

For example, you might name a Google Analytics pageview tag: "UA (Universal Analytics) — Pageview — All pages on the site." Once you've entered the name, you can click the box that asks you to choose the tag type.

You will then see a list of available tag types . These are the tag configurations that GTM natively supports, which we discussed earlier. Choose the configuration for analytics or other platforms that you are trying to integrate with your site. In this example, this is Google Analytics.
